NDC confirms Nasiru Garo as Kano North senatorial candidate for 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally endorsed Nasiru Sule Garo as its candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

Garo’s emergence followed the party’s decision to replace Engr. Sunusi Danbatta, who voluntarily withdrew from the race and pledged to support the new candidate.

The confirmation was announced at an affirmation ceremony held at the NDC senatorial office in Bichi.

Speaking at the event, the party’s Kano State Chairman, Usaini Isa Mairiga, said Garo was chosen after consultations within the party and consideration of his experience as a former member of the National Assembly.

Mairiga, who was represented by the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman, Bello Ado Yandadi, said the affirmation marked the completion of the NDC’s internal process for selecting its candidate for the senatorial contest.

Danbatta described his withdrawal as voluntary and assured the party that he would work for the success of Garo and other NDC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Garo, a three-term former member of the House of Representatives for Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency and former Kano State Commissioner for Environment, pledged to unite party members and provide effective representation if elected.

He appealed to voters across Kano North to support his candidacy and the NDC’s political programme.

The party’s State Organizing Secretary, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, said Garo’s candidacy would strengthen the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 election in the district.

He said the party would focus its campaign on issues directly affecting constituents, including economic empowerment, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure and effective representation.

Party leaders at the event urged members and supporters to remain united and mobilize voters ahead of the election.

Garo has already begun consultations with political stakeholders, party members and residents across the 13 local government areas that make up the Kano North Senatorial District.
