The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State has declared that criticism and what it described as falsehoods would not derail its ambition to win the 2027 governorship election and address the state’s challenges.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Kassim Almustafa Kayatawa, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday in response to an article by Suleiman Ahmad Tudu, a Senior Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government.
The article, titled “The Candidate Campaigning with a Resignation Letter,” questioned the governorship ambition of the NDC candidate, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa.
However, the party dismissed the publication as misleading, accusing its author of taking Marafa’s remarks out of context and misrepresenting his position for political advantage.
“We remain firm; no falsehood will deter our dream to salvage Zamfara State,” the party declared.
The NDC explained that Marafa’s comments during an interview with DCL Hausa were not an attempt to campaign with a resignation letter but rather a reflection of his commitment to accountability and responsible leadership.
According to the party, Marafa acknowledged the distinct responsibilities of the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government, while pledging to discharge his duties as governor and continue pressing the Federal Government to fulfil its obligations.
It added that the former senator had made it clear that he would resign only if his efforts to ensure the Federal Government met its responsibilities failed to yield the desired results.
The party maintained that Marafa’s position demonstrated his willingness to take responsibility for governance rather than make promises he could not fulfil.
“That is the language of a leader with integrity. That is the language of a man who does not believe in deceiving the people with empty promises,” the statement added.
