Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum ( PGF) and governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma has declared that the zoning of the presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the South can never be a threat to President Bola Tinubu.
Uzodinma who spoke to newsmen after undergoing his screening of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the primary election, argued that contrary to insinuations in the camp of the opposition, the ruling party is not loosing any sleep over their emergence, with about 31 sitting governors.
“There was a development today: the NDC has its convention, and they have said they have zoned their presidential ticket to the South. Don’t think that is a threat to Tinubu’s reelection!
“The problem I have with the media is that you know the truth, yet you always want to dance around; in a country of 36 states, and 31 are sufficiently and transparently members of the All Progressives Congress. Look at that proportion 31 state is already for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, apart from some states that are half APC and half their party. If you add to it, you know that Nigeria has spoken.
“So I’m not, we’re not threatened by any party. First of all, this party that zoned the presidential ticket the South—where is there head office”?
On his ambition to return to the Senate, the governor whose tenure will end in January 2028 said; “My ambition is to go to the Senate to represent my people. We don’t ask for leadership from the grassroots. When I get to the Senate, whatever rules that we meet we will follow the rules”.
On the screening exercise, Uzodimma said it was a very good exercise and
great of course, because the APC is one family.
“APC is a family, and we know ourselves. And of course, following the requirements of the party, I have to submit myself for proper screening, and that they have done. And to the best of my knowledge, I think they are satisfied and am eligible”, he concluded.
