The Minister of State and supervising Minister for the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has condemned the recent spate of violence that has caused loss of lives and destruction of properties in Taraba state and other parts of the country.

A statement by the Director of Information, Salisu Na’Inna Dambatta, said the Minister made this condemnation at the weekend, when he flagged-off the reconstruction of three bridges on the Katsina Ala – Takum road.

According to the statement, the three bridges are being funded by the TY Danjuma Foundation.

In his speech, Ishaku said villages and hamlets, including Kashimbila, Dogon-Gawa and Jibu were attacked by gunmen, killing innocent citizens and destroying their properties.

He noted that the violence unleashed on the villages in southern Taraba State was uncalled for, even as he commiserated with the families that lost loved ones and properties.

The Minister urged the youth in the area to be law-abiding, engage in peace advocacy and shun all immoral acts, emphasizing that “Killings are not necessary; restiveness is not wanted. Without peace, there would be no development”.

He also praised security agencies in the area for bringing the situation under control and urged the residents of the affected villages to remain calm, as according to him, government was doing everything possible to secure them.
