Senator Ali Ndume has denied Media reports that former Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai was attacked in Borno State.
According to the reports, during a recent appearance on a political television show, Ndume disclosed that Boko Haram insurgents had attempted to attack Buratai’s convoy.
The Senator clarified the situation and rejected the reports as false in a statement released yesterday.
He clarified that Buratai town, which is in Borno State’s Biu Local Government Area, was attacked, not the former Army Chief, who is from the town.
He said: “It was Buratai town in Borno state that was attacked, not the person of the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff.”
“I am surprised that the town of Buratai could be misconstrued as the person of General Buratai, who incidentally hails from the town.”
Subsequent explanation revealed that the Senator had been discussing the larger security issues in Borno.
“The situation is getting terrible in Borno; the situation is bad in all the six geo-political zones, except in the south. Even south-south, we are grappling with economic sabotage like oil theft. Southwest is the only region that is relatively safe,” he added.
