The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has called for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio to allow for an impartial investigation into the ongoing controversy involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.

In a statement released on Wednesday, NEF spokesperson Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere urged for an immediate and independent probe to uphold the integrity of the Nigerian Senate.

“As the highest law-making institution in Nigeria, the Senate must uphold the values of fairness, justice, and respect,” Jiddere stated.

“Any deviation from these principles risks damaging Nigeria’s reputation in the international community.”

The forum expressed disappointment over what it described as the Senate President’s alleged misuse of his position to embarrass a fellow senator within the legislative chamber.

NEF warned that such actions could erode public trust in the Senate and set a dangerous precedent.

The controversy has sparked widespread debate, with calls for transparency and accountability in the upper legislative chamber.
