New AGF pledges open-door policy, seeks ethical accounting practices

The newly appointed Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has pledged to foster closer engagement with financial professionals, emphasizing the importance of ethics and core values in the accounting profession.

Ogunjimi reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and collaboration in managing the nation’s treasury.

He spoke during a courtesy visit by the PhD. Accounting Class Elders Forum at the Treasury House, Abuja,

He encouraged accountants to uphold professional integrity in their various offices, stressing that their contributions are vital to ensuring accountability in Nigeria’s financial system.

He also assured professionals that his administration would maintain an open-door policy, welcoming advice and recommendations to improve the financial management of the country.

Expressing gratitude for the support he has received since assuming office, Ogunjimi assured stakeholders that he would continue to engage with them actively.

Ogunjimi’s remarks come at a critical time when Nigeria’s financial sector is under scrutiny, with calls for stronger measures against corruption and mismanagement. His commitment to ethical accounting and collaboration aligns with broader national efforts to restore confidence in public financial institutions.

“Whatever you can bring on board to help the treasury is always welcome,” he said, urging accountants to remain steadfast in upholding professional standards.

While congratulating the new AGF, Chairman of the Elders Forum, PhD Students, Nasarawa State University, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali, said Ogunjimi’s appointment is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and expertise. He added that his PhD. classmates have had the privilege of witnessing his perseverance and passion for excellence.

Ali emphasized the AGF’s commitment to public service, integrity, and leadership, which is evident in his elevation to his current role.

According to him, “We celebrate not only your appointment but also the impact that you will make in your new role. We have no doubt that you will bring your trademark excellence, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.”

Recall that a press statement dated March 5, 2025, and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, reads: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation after a rigorous selection process.

“His appointment, approved today, takes effect from March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.”
