The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has demanded 2,084,053,765 Naira for the 2014 World Cup, saying that the 1, 254,164,329 Naira planned by the federation government for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil won’t take the team beyond round 16.
The General Secretary of the NFF, Barrister Musa Amadu who dropped the hint during the House Committee on sports budget defence at National Assembly yesterday, said the federation need 2,084,053,765 Naira to ensure smooth outing at the world fiesta.
“We expect that one point two billion Naira will come from government, while the football house will source the balance of the money to ensure a smooth outing for the Super Eagles at Brazil 2014.
“The 1,254,164,329 Naira proposed by federal government won’t take the team beyond round 16, we 2,084,053,765 Naira because this money will cover cost of a training camp in Houston, Texas, USA, as well as bonuses and allowances of the team, “ he said.
The total expenditure has been put down to 2,084,053,765 Naira with 1,254,164,329 Naira coming from government, while the balance of this amount will come from sponsors and fund raising events.
While assuring the federation of smooth outing, Chairman of the committee, Hon Godfrey Ali Gaiya implored NFF to take the available money from federal government and assured the football house of government readiness should the team goes beyond round 16.
“Federal government has proposed what it had, that does not mean it won’t increase it should the team do well in Brazil, federal government what them to use this money judiciously, “Gaiya noted.
They are drawn against Argentina, ran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first round of the 2014 World Cup, which kicks off in Brazil on June 12.
