NFF technical director wants coaches to meet requirements

Date:

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amodu Shuaibu has urged Nigerian Coaches to obtain the CAF and FIFA basic requirement for coaching before it was too late.

Shuaibu gave the advicein Abuja at the end of a two-week CAF C-License Coaching Course for Nigerian coaches.

He said any Nigerian coach who failed to obtain the CAF and FIFA licenses for coaching before the November 2014 deadline did that at his or her own peril.

“The coaches need to avail themselves of the licenses depending on the qualifications they presently have.

“It is not in all cases that any coach has to start from the C-License.

“Some, based on their playing experience and some based on their qualifications and years of involvement in coaching can do B-License Course straight.

“Some can even come straight to A if they meet the requirement,” Shuaibu said.

According to him, national team coaches who had yet to get the C-License should endeavour to do so when the next course begins in July.

He said CAF might have concluded plans to sideline coaches who do not have the requirement no matter who was involved.

Shuaibu expressed optimism that the coaches who took part in the just concluded C-License Course would contribute to the development of football in the country.

“The C-License course has come to an end and the coaches have learnt a lot they will put into use to the benefit of Nigerian football.

“Because these are the people who we think should be able to go and handle kids at the age of six to eighteen; that is what CAF said.

“Although at the moment, they can still handle senior teams but when the CAF Licensing policy comes to effect, coaches will be restricted to the licenses they are carrying,’’ he added.

84 coaches participated in the CAF C-License Coaching Course which ended in Abuja on Saturday.

The NFF Assistant Technical Directors, Kashimawo Laloko and James Peters were among the resource persons at the two-week course. (NAN)
