NGO educates 100 youths on drugs abuse in Sokoto

Sokoto-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Unity, Peace and Mobilisation has sensitised no fewer than one hundred youths on the dangers associated with hard drugs abuse in the state.

The one-day anti-drugs sensitization campaign was tagged, ‘Drugs to Fruits.’

The State Chairman of the association, Alhaji Nura Attajiri said that the campaign was part of efforts to complement the government efforts in dealing with the menace of drugs consumption and trafficking.

“The event is to encourage the youths to shun drugs and migrate to the consumption of fruits. As leaders of tomorrow, the youths will then be useful to themselves, their families and the society,” he added.

Also speaking, the state chairman of the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) Alhaji Bello Nagwari advocated for an improved funding of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to fully tame the menace of drugs abuse and addiction in Nigeria.

Another speaker at the event, Mrs Salamatu Ibrahim, a Nutritionist at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, extolled the virtues of fruits in boosting the health and immunity of the human beings.
