As part of its commitment towards offering humanitarians services through provision of Basic needs to the less privilege peoples in the society, the newly sworn in President of Soroptimist International, an Non-Governmental Organisation in Abuja, Anthonia Okoli, says provision of portable water in rural communities in the FCT is her top most priority.

She promised to tackle water scarcity in Abuja rural communities, by providing boreholes in most of the rural areas in all the six area councils in FCT. m

The newly elected president, disclosed this at her Insignia and installation ceremony as the 13th president of the organization, at the weekend, said other projects that are on top on her agenda include; provision free medical services , women empowerment, and the continuous scholarship programme of her predecessor for the less privilege students in FCT and beyond.

“This organisation’s primary objective is to provide succour to the less privilege in the society and make life meaningful for the poorest of the poor, especially women and girls.

“It aims at creating a society where there is equity and a decent living for all people life; as such, I will do all within my power by God’s grace to touch lives as many as possible and this is the Platform, I enjoin well-meaning Nigerians, friends and relations to key into this version”, Okoli said.

Earlier, the immediate past president of the NGO, Medinah Huthman , described soroptimist’s mission as inspired action that creates opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships.

Thanking her defunct executive members for their support, during her reign, she recalled how lives of many were affected positively in rural communities of the area councils in FCT.

In her goodwill message, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Dame Pauline Tallen, who was Mother of the Day, expressed gratitude for what members of Soroptimist has done in in the society.

She expressed her confident in the ability of Okoli’s leadership to take the organisation to a greater height, and urged members to always pray for her success, promise to revive her Plateau state chapter of Soroptimist International.

Highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new executives and induction of new members into their folds, as well as donations were made by guests as Startup of the Organisation’s president’s pet project, provision of portable water in the rural communities.
