NGO sensitizes school girls on menstrual hygiene, donates sanitary pads in Kano

A Non Governmental Organization, Network of Reproductive Health Journalist of Nigeria (NRHJN), Kano Chapter, in collaboration with support from Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation (AAGF) has conducted a one-day sensitization programme for a government girls secondary school in Kano state.
The NGO also distributed free pads to the participants of the programme in a bid to encourage them to embrace hygienic menstrual life.
Speaking during the sensitization programme, held in Kano yesterday, the State Coordinator of the NRHJN, Abdullahi Jalaluddeen said the sensitization programme was organized to commemorate World Menstrual Hygein Day celebrations.
According to him, the sensitization programme was also organized for secondary school female students on how to maintain menstrual hygiene, geared towards enhancing their health.
Jalaluddeen noted that many young girls do not know how to maintain menstrual hygiene, adding that a lot of them come from poor family that could not afford to buy pads regularly, hence the need for the general public to step up towards donating pads to them.
Jalaluddeen urged the students to make maximum utilization of the sensitization and stepdown the knowledge to other students , aimed at achieving the set objectives.
In her remark, while presenting a lecture on Menstrual Hygiene, a health expert working with Government Hospital in Kano, Metron Rabi Hassan urged the students to always maintain enviromental and body hygiene, aimed at curtailing being infected with infectious diseases.
“You have to be extra careful during menstrual periods,be changing your sanitary pads twice or thrice daily , depending on the your nature”
She Advised the students to always seek medical advice whenever they experience abnormal menstrual bleeding, calling on them to redouble their efforts in maintaining their personal health.
Earlier the principal of the school applauded the foresight and efforts of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalist of Nigeria with support from Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo foundation for providing the knowledge and sanitary pads to the students .
She appealed to other groups and individuals to emulate the good gesture of the network.
