NGO takes poetry competition to pupils in Abuja school

In a bid to reinforce literary aspect of education in the learning and teaching process, a Non governmental organisation Face of Hope Foundation (FHF) in collaboration with Onome Reading Club( ORC) has taken this campaign to the doorstep of Total Liberation International School, Kubwa, Abuja, where primary three to six pupils were engaged in a poetry competition.
Welcoming the organisers, the school proprietress, Mrs. Cecilia Abel Duniya described poetry competition as a laudable initiative, which will help to revive and sustain reading skills, through recitation and demonstration of various poems in their different rhyming pattern.
Duniya said the competition as part of extra curricular activities will not only encourage the students but help them to discover their areas of interest either in writing,memorising ,identification of rhymes and demonstration as well as work towards developing such potentials as they grow.
She commended the organisers for their foresight and commitment towards creating such fruitful educative and informative platform for children to showcase their talents.
Also speaking, FHF founder, Ms Grace Ojo said, the NGO appreciates the great potentials God given to children, hence the need to prepare them for the great future ahead of them.
She added that catching them (children) young is a way of curbing any tendency of vices in them and make them focus towards achieving holistic education in life.
According to her, it is a healthy competition to further assist them to work on their weakness and improve their reading skill.
She explained the choice of the host school was in line with the current reigning Queen of the Foundation, Miss Onome Treasure Uko, a student who has an existing reading club which is effective in the school with objectives of reviving,imbibing and sustaining the reading culture at an early age among the children.
She opined that the Foundation is committed to giving hope to the hopeless and raise generation of children who will continue to be pride to their families, society and nation at large, through creating a platform for children to express themselves, build and sustain their confidence as well as their strength in their chosen career.
Our correspondent reports that highlight of the poetry competition was the presentation of gifts to winners in the category of 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in each level respectively.
Also, several consolation prizes were doled out to other participants among others at the well attended event.
