From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
Panacea Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has called on the government of Kano state to make laws that will protect trees from being cut down in the state.
Dr Dahir Hashim, founder of the organization, made the call during the planting of 200 tree seedlings, held at Tudun Yola in the Kano metropolis on Sunday.
According to Hashim, the government should make a law that would preserve trees from being indiscriminately cut down, which causes environmental hazards and climate effects.
He advised that if there are existing laws in the state in this regard, the government should review them and enforce strict adherence to them in a bid to safeguard the society from outbreak of diseases, occasioned by indiscriminate cutting down of trees that provide energy and breeze to the health of the people.
“You know these trees provide energy that is good to the health of the people. Due to climate challenges, people have now become vulnerable to diseases. If these trees are there, they would provide energy that would protect people, provide healthy breeze and cool down the adverse whether in the state.”
