NGO wants high maternal mortality rate reduced before 2015

The group, Advocacy Nigeria Network, in partnership with Jabi Environmental Health Foundation, with support from SURE-P, has pledged that the organisation will do anything possible to ensure that the high rate of child maternal mortality reduces before 2015.

The coordinator of the programme, Mrs. Amina Sa’idu, who stated this yesterday in Gombe, during a one-day high level advocacy sensitisation forum for policymakers on maternal and child health, organized by Advocacy Nigeria Gombe state chapter, in partnership with Jabi Environmental Health Foundation, with support from SURE-P, held at Jewel Hall School of Nursing, in Gombe.

According to her, the forum was meant to interact with the stakeholders on the need to come out with a lasting solution to ensure that high rate of maternal and child health is being addressed, in order to sustain the challenges faced by women in the country.

She however said that already the programme has made a positive impact where it has contacted the traditional and religious leader toshowcase on the need to sustain the problem, adding that as matter of urgency to allow pregnant women visit Hospital from time to time.

Also speaking at the event, the team leader of the programme in Gombe state, Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf also attributed that the programme ismobilizing efforts to contribute to the reduction of high rate of maternal mortality in the state.

While commending the role played by the state government, the team leader said he will not hesitate to express the effort of the government under the leadership of Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for making the state a role model where ante-natal services to pregnant women andchildren from 0-5 years are receiving services free of charge.
