Niger Assembly calls for state of emergency on insecurity

The Niger State House of Assembly has called for the declaration of a State of Emergency in the state as a result of the persistence insecurity challenges confronting the state in recent time.
This was part of the resolutions of the Assembly at its plenary held at the House Chamber in Minna, following a motion of matters of public importance sponsored by Hon. Malik Madaki Bosso representing Bosso constituency.
The lawmakers in their various contributions on the matter lamented the incessant security challenges in no fewer than nine local government areas affecting the three senatorial zones of the state.
They called for urgent proactive measures by the executive and other arms of government to arrest the ugly situation with a view of safeguarding the lives and properties of the people of the state.
The contributors canvassed for multilateral approach and collaborative efforts by all relevant stakeholders to find a workable solution to the security menace bedeviling the state before it gets out of hand.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse reiterated the concern of the 9th Legislature to bring together all relevant stakeholders in the state for an inclusive security summit to find comprehensive and workable solutions to the security problems facing the state currently.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has administered Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Membership on the new member representing Agwara Constituency, Hon. Bello Ahmed who was declared winner by INEC in the just conducted bye election on 25th January, 2020 making him a third time member under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
