Niger state House of Assembly has directed its Committee on education and that of Legislative Compliance to investigate the withholding of 2019/2020 results of 30,000 candidates from public schools who sat for the National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) in the state.
The resolution was reached at the plenary of the Assembly yesterday after adopting a motion moved by Honourable Malik Madaki Bosso representing Bosso constituency under matters of urgent public importance.
The motion was supported by Hon. Shaba Gbara representing Mokwa constituency.
He commended the initiative of Madaki who noted that state government through the state ministry of education has collected NECO registration fees from non-indigenes candidates and others who were not qualified to benefit from government payment of NECO examination fees but did not remit same to NECO.
According to him, “this issue is of great concern to parents and all of us. Over 30000 students have been denied access to their NECO results because of the accumulated debts by government for 2019 and 2020 examinations conducted by the body”.
The lawmaker stated that this has affected the students’ opportunity to gain admission into universities and other higher institutions.
