Niger Assembly sacks LGSC board

Niger State House of Assembly has approved a request by the Governor, Dr Muazu Babagida Aliyu, to remove from office chairman and members of the state Local Government Service Commission.

The approval followed a letter to that effect by the governor which was read by the Speaker, Barrister Adamu Usman, at the plenary yesterday in Minna.

The governor in the letter recounted that the board of the commission, chaired by Barrister Halidu Ibrahim, was inaugurated on the 18th match, 2011 with five years tenure.

Aliyu alleged that unfortunately shortly after their inauguration, the members of the commission started conducting themselves in a manner that made them unable to discharge their functions efficiently owing to unnecessary petty bickering and flagrant display of immaturity.

According to him, the misconduct of members of the commission came to the fore when the chairman was nominated to participate in the on –going National conference at Abuja.

This, the letter added, further exposed the commission’s vulnerability to leadership incompetence and inability to discharge its responsibilities.

He said the request for confirmation for the removal from office of chairman and members of the commission was in accordance with section 9 of the local government service commission law, cap 75, laws of Niger state 1989.

Meanwhile the Assembly has passed into law, a bill for a law to amend the Niger State Basic education Board law 2005 and for other matters connected therewith.

The passage of the bill followed the presentation of report of the House committee on education that carried out legislature activity on the bill.

Similarly, the house has passed into law, a bill for a law to repeal the Niger state primary Health care Development agency two thousand and Nine and to establish the Niger state primary health care Development Agency 2005 and for other connected purposes.
