Niger-East senatorial election inconclusive – INEC REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Niger state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Emmanual Onucheyo has declared Saturday’s Niger-East senatorial bye-election result as inconclusive, due to irregularities in some polling units.

Dr. Onucheyo, made the announcement yesterday, at the end of the result collation in Minna, the Niger state capital.

He intimated that another election would be held in some polling units in Bosso, Chanchaga, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi and Shiroro Local Government Areas on September 6.

The bye-election was held in nine local government areas, made up of Zone B, which includes: Bosso, Chanchaga, Gurara, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi, Shiroro, Suleja and Tafa.

He noted that the reasons for the cancelation of the election results in the affected areas included ballot box snatching, arm twisting of electoral officials and violence.

Onucheyo stated that the standing results for the four parties that participated were as follows: All Progressives Congress (APC), 84, 689; All Progressive Grand Alliance, 2, 099; People’s Democratic Party (PDP) 89, 640 and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) 460.

The REC said that the number of registered voters was 937443; number of accredited voters 199, 790 and 176, 888 was the number of valid votes cast.
