Niger: Gov. Aliyu, APC trade words over appointment of perm secs

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger state has said no matter the level of intimidation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it will not keep silent and watch the state grinded to a halt; as Governor of Niger state, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has used the appointment of permanent secretaries as a political patronage.

This was contained in a statement issued in Minna yesterday by the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa even as the APC considered the exalted office of a permanent secretary not a job for the boys that it’s a position where qualified career civil servants are appointed to occupy through considerations of competence, competitiveness, and experience.

Vatsa noted that the recent appointment of thirteen permanent secretaries is lacking in all these process, it is job for political loyalist and Jobbers, we believe that for the state to move forward appointment of unqualified people to such positions should be condemned and totally rejected as it was a deliberate move to destroy the civil service.

The Chief Press Secretary to Niger state Governor, Israel A. Ebije reacting to the position of the APC on the recent appointment, described as antics of the rudderless opposition to sustain its nuisance value.

Ebije expressed concern over the reasoning of the state opposition, adding that they lack the administrative competence to understand the importance of the action.

He said the opposition couldn’t direct the ruling party on how to govern, adding that the decision of the state governor to appoint permanent secretaries is to reinvigorate the civil service and promote service delivery.

“It is indeed ironical to find the opposition suddenly disturbed at

government decision to reposition the civil service. It only shows that the government of Dr. Aliyu is in the right direction. I would have been disturbed if they drummed support for such laudable decision. They are table tippers and nothing good can come from them.”
