Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced the lifting of the curfew imposed on Minna, the state capital, with effect from Monday (today).
Governor Bago made the announcement during a Fida’u prayer session organized for the 37 deceased persons.
The decision lifts movement restrictions and allows normal daily activities to resume across the Minna metropolis following the restoration of peace and stability.
The state government had initially imposed the curfew to restrict movement between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to quell violent youth protests and curb nighttime vandalism.
The civil unrest erupted after 37 young suspected illegal miners died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The incident sparked widespread public outrage, with demonstrators taking to the streets to demand justice.
With security agencies successfully restoring order across key areas of the capital, the government confirmed that normal vehicular and human movements can resume fully across the city.
