The Niger state government has announced the completion of work on the N2.590bn shiroro bridge in the shiroro local government area of the state.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development Alhaji Muazu Bawa disclosed this while addressing a newsmen in Minna yesterday said the government will soon announce the day for the commissioning of the project.

According to Alhaji Muazu Bawa the completion of the 490meters long bridge makes it the longest bridge to be constructed by the administration adding that it will boost social and economic activities of the area in addition to saving lives that hitherto were lost as a result of crossing the river Kaduna by boat or ferry.

Contract for the project was re- awarded in September last year with a completion period of 14 months the Commissioner said but was delighted that that the construction firm executed the project 100 percent within 12 months.

Alhaji Muazu Bawa also announced the completion of the Rijau-Dukku 48kilometer road project which was constructed at N6.2bn.

Both the Shiroro bridge and the Rijau- Dukku road projects Alhaji Muazu Bawa disclosed were financed from the N9bn collected from the capital market by the administration of Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu.

In another development, work on the first phase of the development of the Garam Model city in Tafa local government area of the state and Suleja International market has commenced.

The two projects are being financed from money collected from the capital market with the Suleja International designed to be the biggest and most modern in the Northern region of the country.

The execution of the projects according to the Managing Director of the Niger State Development Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu Ciroma will make the people of the area benefit from their proximity to the Federal Capital Territory.
