Niger govt recovers 770 cattle, sheep from rustlers, says DG

The Director General Nomadic Affairs to Niger State Government, Alhaji Ardo Abdullahi Babayo has said that over 700 cows, 70 sheep’s and rams has been recovered from cattle rustlers and handed over to the police in the last seven months.
Babayo made the disclosure in an interview yesterday in Minna the state capital adding that they were recovered in different local governments of the state by members of nomadic vigilante and were handed over the police accordingly.
He applauded the cordial relationship between them and the security agencies in the state especially the Police, Nigeria Civil Defense Corps (NCDC) and Department of Security Service DSS for their support in ensuring it curbs cattle rustling in the state.
The DG hinted that all the recovery made were cattle rustled from Zamfara Kebbi and Sokoto states and the owners were able to identified their cows and sheep’s which has been collected by the original owners.
He explained that Niger State was mainly suffering from the cases from its neigbouring states hence his men have set up a forum at each of the border towns to arrest within 24 hours any criminal entrance to be identified, arrest and handed over to the Police.
Babayo further said that just last week a total of 230 cows and 42 sheep’s was recovered at Mokwa that were rustled from Zamfara state.
He said some recovery were made at Zungeru and Lapai local governments respectively since he assumed office on 4th June 2017.
While he commended the Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello for the opportunity to serve in the capacity stated that the era of arrest of cattle rustled and refused to hand over to the owners is over just as the committee of cattle boarders has been dissolved and brought under his office.
