Niger state government has commenced plans in curbing the ongoing deforestation and production of charcoal in the state through creation of crack teams in the three geo political zones and 25 local government councils of the state.
The Commissioner of Environment and Forestry, Mohammed Zakari made this known while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council Meeting held yesterday in Minna, saying that the approval was meant to curbing of state deforestation.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Lucky Barau who said that Niger state is one of the highest producers of charcoal hence the need to reverse the trends.
He decried that they were been perpetuated by a well coordinated and syndicated persons (teams) who are either public servants and individuals within and outside the state but “enough is enough” as government was determined to arrest the current situation.
