Niger Govt uncovers over 200 ghost workers

Niger State Government has disclosed that it has uncovered 200 ghost workers listed on the state government’s payroll.
The State Commissioner of Finance Malam Lawal Maikano, made this known after the ministry’s 2024 budget screening at the Assembly Complex in Minna.
Maikano explained that the discovery was as a result of the technology implemented by the present administration to scrutinize the state civil service to ascertain the authenticity of number of the state workforce.
He said the current administration led by Governor Muhammad Umar Bago is resolute in closing all loopholes and leakages for better results.
According to him, the state employs about 25,000 individuals and is expending over two point five billion naira monthly on salaries alone.
He further revealed that funding for the 2024 budget, of over N600 billion naira would come from loans, Federal allocation, revenue generation, and other sources.
