Niger Police recovers 110 firearms, 81 ammunition

The Niger State Police command has recovered 110 firearms and 81 ammunition of different descriptions in various locations in the state.
The command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Muhammad Abubakar disclosed this yesterday at the Police headquarters in Minna.
He said that in compliance with the Inspector General of Police directive to mop up illegal and prohibited firearms in circulation across the country, the said recovery in the state were in Pandogari, Alawa, Sarkin Pawa, Lapai, Gawu Babangida and Mashegu respectively.
According to the PPRO the recoveries includes, 6 AK 47 rifles, 30 revolver short guns, 42 locally made single barrel guns, 5 magazine, 1 SMG rifle, 2 mark 4 rifles, 1 locally made AK47 rifle, 2 pump action guns, one G3 rifle, one mark 5 rifle and others.
The Commissioner of Police, DP Yakagi has called on the people not to entertain fear when the taskforce commences the operation and seeking the cooperation of the members of the public for the success of the operations.
He assured that the taskforce will intensify massive cordon and search of premises, houses and stores on reasonable suspicion that are in custody of firearms used for fabrication in accordance with the provisions of the robbery and firearms Act cap R.11 LFN 2004 and firearms Act cap F.28 LFN 2004 accordingly.
