Niger youths seeks Buhari’s intervention to fix deplorable roads

The Coalition of Niger state Civil Society Groups and the Nigeria Youth Council of Nigeria has appealed to the presidency to urgently intervene on the deplorable state of federal roads across Niger State.
The groups have also declared plans to protest and match to Abuja to express their displeasure over the deplorable roads.
The called for urgent intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the bad roads are signs that Niger State is continually being shortchanged by the Federal Government even as an All Progressive Congress (APC) state.
The two groups spoke to newsmen at a press conference held at IBB Pen House Minna the Niger State capital.
The Secretary of the Coalition of Niger state Civil Society Groups, Comrade Mohammed Saidu Etsu disclosed that the state of bad federal roads in Niger state have become death traps to motorists and is causing hardship to the people in the state.
“The case of rehabilitation of the Minna-Bida road which attracts massive traffic of users, has been in worse state these past weeks. That road is killing people every day.
“We want the federal government should intervene in the Suleja-Minna road, Minna-Bida road, Lapai-Lambata-Bida road, Bida-Lemu-Zugeru-Tegina road, Gidigori-kagara-mokwa road, makera-kontagora road, Kontagora-Yawuri road, Kontagora-Rijau road and Agaie-Baro road, “ he stated.
Etsu hinted that the state government has limited resources to tackle these detroriating roads said it has caused a great setback to the economic state of the state.
“At this point and noting the economic downturn, we have to be honest to ourselves, we are appealing to the federal government to intervene and complement the stage government in building road infrastructure across the state.
“Continuous maintenance of federal roads is not a sustainable venture by a government that has a lot of electoral promises to fulfil in the face of economic difficulties. We are drawing the federal government attention to please live up to its responsibility,” he concluded.
In same vein, the Niger South Deputy Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Mohammed Bida described the deplorable state of roads in the state as a national embarrassment.
Bida decried the poor state of roads has further resulted in poor productivity of farmers, business men and women and other government workers stressing that these people loss immeasurable man hours in traffic on daily basis because of the sorry state of the roads.
