The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international air power cooperation at the SICOFAA Symposium held in Punta Cana.
Air Marshal Aneke, who attended the event in his dual capacity as Chief of the Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force and Chairman of the Association of African Air Forces, addressed Air Chiefs, senior military leaders and strategic partners from Africa and the Americas.
Speaking on the symposium’s theme, he stressed the need for enhanced collaboration among air forces to address evolving security threats, including terrorism, transnational crime, humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.
He noted that the AAAF remains a key platform for promoting professional excellence, capacity building and the exchange of best practices among African air forces.
The CAS also highlighted opportunities for greater cooperation in areas such as joint exercises, air mobility, search and rescue operations, aerospace medicine, logistics support and disaster response efforts.
He further announced plans for the African Air Forces Field Training Exercise scheduled to take place in Kenya in 2027, describing it as a major initiative aimed at improving readiness for joint security and humanitarian operations involving African air forces and international partners.
Air Marshal Aneke urged participants to translate discussions from the symposium into practical actions that would enhance interoperability, deepen trust and strengthen global air power cooperation.
His participation at the event underscores Nigeria’s growing role in international defence collaboration and its commitment to promoting peace, stability and collective security across regions.
