The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has stated that 59 million registered small scale enterprises are operating in the country, adding that this implies that small scale industries hold the key to our economy.
Acting Director General of the Agency, Mr Ademola Mogbojuru, disclosed this at a stakeholders forum held in kaduna yesterday.
The NAFDAC DG added that it was based on this premise that the management met and resolved to review its guidelines and streamline its operations to march with the present realities, saying it has made registration of products less cumbersome as one can now register anywhere he or she is resident.
Represented by the Director, Special Duties, Dr Abubakar Momoh, he assured that the recent move will ensure more entrepreneurs coming to register their products.
Citing example of pure water, the NAFDAC boss affirmed that Nigerians consume 10 million sachets water daily. This according to him means Nigerians spend N1 billion on sachet water daily.
He said the recent drive by the agency will encourage prospective entrepreneurs to register their products.
“We have now decentralised registration in our six geo-political zones.
Our zonal coordinators, as well as state coordinators are expected to meet every two weeks to register would be entrepreneurs, “he said
