Nigerian Youth Development Ministry in synergy with Nigeria Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security (NCYPS), supported by Centre for Sustainable Development and Education in Africa (CSDEA) may have concluded plans to release the Second Impact Report on the Implementation of the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and Security.
The trio organized a one-day workshop for key stakeholders from pilot states to share their experience on the second-year implementation of the Nigeria National Action Plan on Youth, Peace, and Security (NAP-YPS) on July 24.
The pilot states that were invited were Anambra, Adamawa, Delta, Kaduna, Plateau, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking during the event,Mr. Abel Unubi – Board member of the Centre for Sustainable Development and Education in Africa said the organization started engaging in youth, peace and security agenda around 2012 when it joined forces with several international organizations to call for United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 on YPS.
Mr. Hamira Welye, who delivered goodwill message on behalf of the United Nation Population Fund said that since the creation of the organization, it has focused strategically on the youth and that he looked forward to the day when the youth will change their potentials to action and impact society for peace.
Also speaking, Hajiya Amina Daura – Director of Network and Social Development, in the Youth Development Ministry and co-Chair NCYPS representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olusanya Olubunmi stated that she was delighted to be part of this gathering to assess the impact of the Nigerian National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security, particularly as related to youth who constitute the demographic assets of any society.
Kaduna State had completed the development of its SAP-YPS and making plans for its public launch.
Adamawa State was conducting consultations with stakeholders from the various local governments across the state as part of the process to develop their SAP-YPS. Delta, Oyo, Anambra, Plateau, and the FCT have all formed their own State Coalitions on YPS and working on mobilizing resources and preparing the technical aspects to develop their SAPs-YPS.
