Nigeria recorded unprecedented progress in polio eradication – NPHCDA boss

The Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Ado Mohammed has said that Nigeria has recorded an unprecedented progress in the area of Polio eradication, declared that in the last five months there has not been any recorded case of a single Polio virus in the country.

He stated this in an interaction with newsmen after the last quarter meeting of the Northern Traditional Leaders Committee on Polio and Primary Healthcare, led by the Shehu of Bama, Alhaji Kyari ibn Umar El- Kanemi with his agency in Minna, the Niger state capital recently.

“What we are doing is to carefully review the progress we have made in the last few months and as it is, we have made an unprecedented progress that we have not been seeing in the history of polio eradication in this country,

‘Today we have policy cases over polio virus and in the last five months we have not recorded a single case about polio virus in Nigeria”. He explained further that secret behind the success of Polio eradication campaign in Nigeria is that Nigerians have risen and have spoken with one voice that his agency in conjunction with all the stakeholders need to kick out Polio virus out of the country, saying that “we, as a programme, have collectively engaged and mobilised all stakeholders including journalists, traditional institutions, religious leaders, research institutions among others.

Accordingly, Mohammed said by precisely January 23, 2015, “We should be able to hand over to Mr. President a polio interactive session, which is an enormous progress and something that has never happened in the history of polio eradication in this country.

He called for celebration as a result of concerted efforts with the supports of the traditional institutions and then the religion leaders across the country.
