Nigeria is undergoing a nutritional transition in the things which have huge burden of under nutrition, overnutrition and also micronutrient deficiencies, the Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate has said.
Pate who made this known while delivering his speech at the launch of the 2021 National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey Report held in Abuja said it was very clear Nigeria was undergoing multiple transitions, all at once.
Continuing, he said the report provided very good evidence to inform policies, programs and implementation and also learning over time.
Pate said we were moving from faith-based policies and programing to evidence-based policies and programing.
He assured of federal government’s commitment in tackling malnutrition and expressed optimism that subnational leaders, state governors and multitude of partners were committed to implementing evidence-based solutions to improve the nutritional outcomes in Nigeria.
“This is an amazing accomplishment. It is very clear Nigeria is undergoing multiple transitions, all at once. We just concluded a political transition with the Government of Bola Tinubu and at the subnational level.
“We are undergoing an economic transition, we are undergoing a demographic transition in terms of the structure of our population, youthful population is growing, also the structure of the population is changing in terms of cognitive human capital, it is very vital.”
