The Nigeria Wushu Kungfu Federation has pledged its readiness to deepen its collaboration with China and Chinese companies to create Wushu programs that promotes Chinese culture, develop Nigerian talent, and strengthen the bonds between the two nations.
North Central Zonal Representative of Nigeria Wushu Kungfu Federation, Bldr. Sesan Adeboyejo who made this known Sunday at the 2026 China-Nigeria Wushu (Martial Arts) Cultural Exchange Event held at China Cultural Centre, Abuja informed that Wushu practitioners were not just learning techniques, but were becoming ambassadors of Chinese culture and champions of Nigeria-China friendship.
Adeboyejo while hailing the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai for expanding Wushu across Nigeria, said the art had taken root, and with practitioners standing as living testimony to the vision.
He said that Nigeria with its rich diversity and enthusiastic youth population, had embraced Wushu Kungfu (Martial Art) with remarkable passion.
Continuing, Adeboyejo stated that Wushu was more than martial arts, but a philosophy, discipline, health, and heritage beautifully woven into movement.
He noted that the China-Nigeria Wushu Cultural Exchange Event, did not only celebrate the ancient art form, but also the enduring bridge of friendship between the peoples.
He however, called for more partnership from Chinese companies in the areas of Training Equipment and Facilities for Wushu centres across North Central Nigeria, Scholarships and Exchange Programs for talented Nigerian athletes to train in China, Competition and Championship Sponsorship to provide platforms for youth excellence, Community Outreach Programs to take Wushu to schools, communities, and underserved areas and Coach Development and Certification to ensure quality instruction and sustainable growth, Annual Cultural Exchange Events that showcase China-Nigeria friendship through Wushu.
He expressed optimism that the sponsorship would empower youth with discipline, focus, and life skills, Promote healthy living and fitness across communities, Strengthen China-Nigeria cultural bonds at grassroots level, Create positive role models and ambassadors for both nations, Provide alternatives to social vices through structured martial arts programs.
In his remarks, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Wushu Association, Mr. Fu Bo who thanked the Chinese Cultural Center, Nigeria Kung Fu & Wushu Association, and Abuja Wushu Association said they come with deep friendship of Chinese Wushu Community, hoping to meet local friends face to face, make friends through wushu, and pass on martial virtues.
He informed that wushu will make its debut as an official competition sport at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games in November, saying that Africa’s role in the international promotion and development of wushu was becoming increasingly important.
Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and Director of China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Mr. Yang Jianxing said they used martial arts as a medium to allow the cultural essence of China and Nigeria to deeply blend in the atmosphere of “Happy Chinese New Year.
“From schools to communities in Abuja, Chinese knots, “Fu” (good fortune) decorations, and the national flags of China and Nigeria complemented each other, as children conveyed New Year’s greetings through dance and song. “These activities not only allowed the Nigerian people to experience the charm of Chinese culture up close but also made the “Happy Chinese New Year” a bridge connecting the people of the two countries” he noted.
The event was characterized with dazzling performances of martial arts by both Chinese and Nigerian practitioners who entertained the audience. It celebrated creativity and tradition, as guests were treated with original Chinese cuisine.
The celebration showed that the Year of the Horse signals prosperity and unity of purpose which made it the right time to gather, rejoice, and welcome a prosperous new year together with a lot of expectations.
