The Nigerian woman has been advised to use the social media as a tool for positive change rather than an agent of fissionable display of pictures.

The call was made by Mrs. Tosin Dogebesi, at a program organized by the Networking organization, Girls Of All Ages (GOALA), to mark the international women’s day with the theme celebrate her 2014.

Mrs Dogbesi who was represented by Busolami Tunwase noted that the wide variety of access to information is a strong tool that Nigerian woman can use to better her lot of, as well as that of the Nation in general.

She said a lot of young ladies use the media to express their beauty through pictures posted on face book ,which was not such a bad idea, but the adoption of media literacy by them would prove a better point of focus; both for their individual goal and for the Nation as a whole.

“With media literacy you can learn how to lend your voice on pressing issues in the country; either through special columns or even letters to the editor”, she said.

According to her, “you may see a bad road and post a picture of it with the location. When people comment, the stake holders will come to know about the condition of the road and act on it”.

Former minister of women affairs, Josephine Anenih who was also a special guest at the event, noted that women had the potential to contribute immensely to creation and as such should not allow anything to deter them from meeting their God-given objective.
