Nigeria’s former Minister of Steel, Paul Unongo dies, Aged 87

Former Minister of Mines and Steel Development in the second republic Wantaregh Paul Iorpuu Unongo is dead.

 

The ailing erstwhile Minister according to a family source who confirmed his death passed Tuesday.

 

The source said an official statement will be issued by the family.

 

Aged 87, the late Unongo was a Former Secretary General of the defunct Nigeria Peoples’ Party, NPP, member of two Constitutional Review Committee under General San Abacha regime and Goodluck Jonathan government.

 

He also, served as Chairman Northern Elders’ Forum having succeeded late Maitama Sule and until his death, was Governing Council Chairman, Nigerian Educational, Research Development Council, NERDC.
