The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), was yesterday awarded with a certificate for upgrading its information security management system.
The certificate, IOS 27001, was presented by the representative of the British Security Institute (BSI), Sham Barhom.
Speaking while presenting the award to Chris Onyemenam, Director General of the commission, , Barhom said NIMC is currently towing the lines of other developed nations of the world.
He said information management was key to the growth and development of any organisation, urging the commission to sustain the achievement so as to be a reference point to other organisations in the country and Africa at large.
On his part, Onyemenam, said NIMC would soon start issuing the National Identity Card (NIC) to members of the public, assuring that the commission has all it takes to ensure the security of information at its disposal.
He said the new development would spur the establishment to do more in other areas to ensure the security of data at its disposal.
The DG said NIMC has over 300 centres across the country and will ensure the security of information in those centres.
“We will always do what is expected in line with the global best practice. Our establishment can now be rated as one of the best because of this marvellous achievement. We will work towards sustaining the success being recorded so as to do more for the country”.
