NIWA boss meets WMU President in London over maritime partnerships

The Chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Governing Board, Barrister Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has held high-level talks with the President of the World Maritime University (WMU), Professor Maximo Q. Mejia Jr., to explore strategic partnerships.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council Session in London.

Discussions centered on boosting Nigeria’s maritime sector through technical education, capacity building, and inland waterways infrastructure modernization.

Shagari emphasized that collaboration with global institutions like the WMU is critical to training Nigerian professionals and unlocking the country’s blue economy.

In response, Professor Mejia reaffirmed WMU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through research, innovation, and institutional training to meet global standards.
