The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has warned its members against engaging in unauthorized activities.

The Association in a statement issued on Tuesday by Dr Mannir Bature, its
National Publicity Secretary, said
the National Officers Committee (NOC) is aware of
ongoing unauthorised activities by a group of individuals parading
themselves as members of the Association, including attempts to convene
what they have described as an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM).

The statement which also copied the Inspector General of Police,
the Director General of DSS and
the Registrar/CEO, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Press, said no Emergency Delegates Meeting has been sanctioned by the Office of
the Secretary-General or any legally constituted organ of the Association.

“The NMA Constitution does not empower any group of individuals or
members to unilaterally summon or convene an EDM outside established
constitutional procedures.

“Any such gathering being organised in the name of the NMA is therefore
illegal, null and void, and should be disregarded by all members.
“The Association further warned that any person or group found to be using the name, platform, or identity
of the NMA to perpetrate illegality, incite disorder, or engage in acts that
may lead to destruction of property will be held fully accountable.”

The statement said such individuals shall be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions
of the NMA Constitution and other applicable regulations.

“The NMA remains committed to upholding order, discipline, and
constitutional governance within the Association.

“Members are strongly
advised to refrain from participating in any unauthorised meetings or
activities that may undermine the unity and stability of the Association.

“Furthermore, the Association calls on relevant security agencies to take
note of these developments and hold accountable any individuals or groups
whose actions may threaten the peace, safety, and stability of the
Association and the public at large.

“The NMA reassures all members of its unwavering commitment to
protecting the integrity of the Association and ensuring that all processes
are conducted strictly in line with the Constitution.”
