NNPC raises petrol price to N839 in Abuja, N835 Lagos

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has increased the pump price of petrol, selling the product at N835 per litre in Lagos and N839 per litre in Abuja.

Checks by The People’s Daily on Wednesday showed that the new prices had been implemented across NNPC retail outlets in both cities.

The latest adjustment represents a N50 increase from the previous N785 per litre in Lagos and a N20 rise from N815 per litre in Abuja.

The hike comes barely a day after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced an increase in the ex-gantry price of petrol to N799 per litre.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, said the facility continued to supply the domestic market with about 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit daily.

Bird added that evacuation and nationwide distribution of the product remained seamless.

He also assured that the refinery’s operational flexibility enabled it to process a wide range of crude and intermediate feedstocks, ensuring uninterrupted petrol supply even during planned maintenance.

Following the review, the refinery said its partner outlets, including MRS filling stations, would sell petrol at N839 per litre, up from the previous N739.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority expressed optimism that increased competition in the downstream sector would help moderate fuel prices over time.

Speaking on January 28, the NMDPRA Chief Executive Officer, Saidu Mohammed, said sustained competition, rather than subsidies, would ensure adequate supply and promote affordability of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas nationwide.

Mohammed said the removal of petrol subsidy had allowed market forces to operate more efficiently, improving supply dynamics and supporting price stability in the downstream petroleum sector.
