The Federal University Gusau has declared that there is not yet any direct communication by the abductors of their students to the management staffers seeking for ransom.
Briefing Journalists on the update of the incident in his office, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mu’azu Abubakar, said though the kidnappers have been contacting some parents of the abducted students, but a staff claimed they told him the kidnap was not for ransom purpose.
“We are appealing to the parents that they should calm down and not allow the nasty activities of the faceless criminals to derail their efforts in educating their children as both the University, governments and security agencies are doing their best to rescue the abducted students.
“So far, 16 students have regained their freedom by either been rescued by security operatives or escaped from the hands of their abductors. We have witnessed the rescue of six female students and three labourers who were working under the ongoing constructions in the University.
“We have only twelve students still remained under the custody of the kidnappers, this has been confirmed by the statistics available to the University, all the abducted students were not staying within the premises of the University but in a building that belongs to an individual, we went there and captured the figure base on available statistics”, Professor Mu’azu has stressed.
