The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has revealed that there are no plans to hire a foreign Coach for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The deputy chairman of the committee, Ayo Omidiranmade this known at a news conference in Abuja yesterday.
“As I sit here and speak with you as the deputy chairman of sports committee, I can tell you there is nothing like that.
“Nobody is planning to hire any foreign coach, foreign or local, no helpers for Coach Stephen Keshi,’’ she said.
She said that when she heard that there were plans by Nigeria Football Federation to hire a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, she met with the officials and they denied.
“When we heard this rumour, I had cause to ask the managers of our football and they have always denied it,’’ she said.
According to her, Keshi is experienced coach, who has qualified an African country for the world and I do not see any reason why he will not lead the team to the world cup.
“I do not see any reason why anyone will say that he will not take Nigeria to the world cup in Brazil with all his experience in the game,’’ she said.
The house committee chairman said that there was no longer quarrel among officials of the glass house.
“As I sit here there is no rancour any longer in the football house, so let’s get that clear,’’ she said.
She said that the football administrators had tried as much as possible to reduce tension in their working relationship for them to have any successful outing.
“The administrators of football and the technical crew know that to have a successful outing, they must work in sync,’’ she said.
She appealed to the media to work positively to promote football in the country.
“I want to appeal to the media not to make elaborate little things that do not really mean much.
“In fact, as much as possible, let us promote the positive more than the negative.’’
She said the committee had submitted the report of the Nigeria Football Federation bill to the house and was waiting for its senate counterpart to do same.
“We as a committee have done the necessary things, we have done public hearing we have also submitted our report. We are waiting for the Senate to do their beat.
She was optimistic that the National Assembly would pass the bill before its lifespan expired.
“I hope before the end of this assembly, we will eventually pass that bill.
