NOA trains 1,000 WAI Brigade

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has trained 1,000 personnel of War Against Indiscipline Brigade (WAI), to assist security agencies in civil intelligence gathering and inculcate discipline among Nigerians Dr Garba Abari, the Director-General of the agency, said during the closing ceremony of the 2nd Annual National WAI Bridged and Camping Exercise Retreat at the NYSC orientation campaign in Paiko on Thursday, such information would help win war against social vices.
The retreat with the theme; Expanding the Frontiers of the War Against Indiscipline Brigade for National Rebirth, had participants drawn from 29 states across the country.
WAI was established by President Muhammadu Buhari in 1984 and repositioned in 2016 to enhance civil intelligence gathering toward an orderly and secure society in line with the change mantra of the present administration.
Abari explained that the training programme was designed to prepare the Brigade nation- wide to fit into the efforts government’s at all levels in finding sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the country.
According to him, the was done when the country was being faced with challenges such as insurgency, kidnapping, farmers/herdsmen clashes as well as agitation for succession. Abari, who was represented by Alhji Mohammed Aliyu, the Agency Coordinator in Niger, urged participants to remain disciplined and impact positively on their communities to enhance national development and peace.
In his remarks, Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger said that the state government would continue to give its support to ensure that Nigerians and Niger citizens are discipline.
Bello, who was represented by Mr Sunday Kolo, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, described discipline as tool for development, adding that a society without discipline can never develop.
