Nonpayment of workers salary: Ex minister seeks Buhari’s intervention

Date:

From Gambo Ahmed, Lafi

The former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku has raised alarm calling on President Mohammadu Buhari to compel Governor Tanko Umaru to clear salaries of workers in Nasarawa state from the bail out and Paris Club funds released to the state recently.
Maku made the plea at the weekend in Andevi village, Obi Local government, while briefing newsmen.
The minister appealed to President Buhari to send a high level investigative panel to ascertain why workers in Nasarawa state are not paid; added that the state received bail out two times as well as Paris-club three times yet workers are yet to be cleared of their salaries.
According to him, “Mr. President should rescue workers in Nasarawa State from this predicament. Any allocation meant for Nasarawa state should be channeled through reliable traditional ruler in the state. Any allocation should be made through committee for effective payment to workers”
He continued “Imagined now that workers are compelled to sign vouchers without salaries. This situation calls for intervention of Mr. President. Verify what is happening with salaries of workers in Nasarawa state”.
“Governor Almakura single handedly mismanaged the state resources thinking that nobody will question him” Maku concluded.
