The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Baba has been honored with an Award of Excellence by the North-east Youth Consultative Forum.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by Head, Information and Public Relations Division, Hauwa Bala.
The event took place yesterday in the Registra’s office,in Abuja.
Dr. Baba emphasized the Council’s proactive role in public health management.
“The Council has been at the forefront of preventive health, driving new initiatives to address emerging and re-emerging challenges,
“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Council is mandated to regulate approximately 24 areas of practice. However, given current global realities, critical issues like climate change and health have been integrated into our operations. This also includes Health Impact Assessment as an integral component of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).” He added.
He further explained that EHCON is undergoing strategic restructuring to effectively tackle contemporary public and environmental health challenges in Nigeria.
“The Council is repositioning itself to meet the evolving demands of public and environmental health in Nigeria,
“A key part of our internal reforms is ensuring we establish the necessary structures, followed by equipping our workforce with the required manpower to drive policy and regulatory frameworks. One of our major focus areas right now, driven by the challenge of global warming, is the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, which we are actively pursuing through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).” He noted.
Dr. Baba expressed his profound gratitude for the award, noting that it holds special significance as it comes from the grassroots of his home region. He pledged his continued commitment to future collaborations and promised to help the forum unlock opportunities to access underutilized international youth empowerment funds.
Earlier, in the presentation, the President of the North-east Youth Consultative Forum, Paul Samaila Bayo, commended the Registrar’s leadership and impact on the region.
