The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned recent attacks in Borno and Zamfara states, describing them as “senseless acts of violence” that have devastated families and communities across Northern Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, CNG National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchu, expressed deep sorrow over the incidents, which claimed dozens of lives.

The group extended condolences to the affected families and state governments, calling the tragedies both devastating and avoidable.

In Borno State, suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) killed 40 farmers in Kukawa Local Government Area near Daban Leda.

The CNG condemned the attack, highlighting the severe toll on livelihoods and breadwinners.

Similarly, in Zamfara State, an airstrike mistakenly targeted members of a local vigilante group in Tungar Kara, killing 16 civilians.

According to reports, the vigilantes were misidentified as fleeing bandits from Gidan Makera in Zurmi Local Government Area.

The CNG demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the airstrike, urging the Federal Government to hold those responsible accountable and take steps to prevent future errors.

“These tragedies underscore the urgent need for a review of operational procedures and a redoubling of efforts to eliminate threats from terrorists and bandits,” Charanchi said .

The group called for enhanced intelligence gathering, improved community engagement, and the use of modern technology to ensure precision in security operations.

Criticizing the Federal Government for what it described as misplaced priorities, the CNG accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of focusing on controversial economic reforms while neglecting critical security challenges.

“The existential threats posed by bandits and terrorists should preoccupy the Federal Government,” the group stated, adding that Nigerians would hold the administration accountable in 2027.

The CNG reiterated its solidarity with the affected communities, praying for the repose of the victims’ souls and urging state governments to provide immediate support to those impacted.

“This is a clarion call for decisive action to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians,” the national coordinator said .
