NPFL26: Insurance Coach Appeals For Calm After home Defeat against Nasarawa Utd

By Amaechi Agbo

The Head Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club Greg Ikhenoba has appealed to fans and other stakeholders of the club to remain patient with him as the team struggles with inconsistent performance and poor home results.
He made the appeal during the post match press conference after the Benin Arsenals recorded their worst result, succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Nasarawa Utd at the Samuel Ogbermudia stadium in Benin.
Garba Mohammed scored the only goal of the match for the solid miners in 90+3 to hand the Benin Arsenals their first home defeat of the season.
” We have lost the match due to lack of concentration and there is nothing we can do now to change the result. Congratulations to the winning team.
As a matter of fact, nobody in this kind of situation will be happy. So, I am not happy at all.”
” This is not the result I expected. I keep telling the boys to keep themselves on guard till the end or you get punished for your mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes and couldn’t take our chances, especially in the first half and we paid for it dearly in the end. I hope we learn from this.
However,we just need to keep focused and work harder. Who knows? It is possible for us to make up for the home loss in Lagos. Anything can happen in Lagos next week. We face Ikorodu City in our next match and we are also capable of getting results outside our home.”
”Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our fans and other stakeholders to still keep faith with us. They should still exercise patience and we will make them happy. We understand how disappointed they are right now. We are all in it together but I believe we will get back on our feet again “.
Coach Ikhenoba however expressed the optimism that Bendel Insurance can still bounce back and get into contention as the league progresses.
The Benin Arsenals started the Match Day 7 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football league at the Samuel Ogbermudia stadium in Benin with a high sense of purpose and intensity, coming from their previous disappointing 1-1 draw at home with Bayelsa Utd in the Match Day 6. They had better ball possession (55) and more shots on target than the visitors (15 against 7) but could not convert any of the chances created, with Kayode Oke, Elmer Arunta and Chinedu Nwosu getting close to giving Insurance a breakthrough in the first half.
Bendel Insurance FC are yet to find the scoring rhythm this season. They have only managed to win one match which was against Niger Tornadoes(1-0) and pulled three draws(1-1) with Shooting Stars,FC Barau in Kano. and Bayelsa Utd. They lost their first match of the season 2-0 to Elkanemi Warriors and 3-2 to Enyimba FC on Match Day 5.
Bendel Insurance FC face Ikorodu City in the Match Day 8 fixture in Lagos.
