The federal government has been urged to prioritize investments in the solid minerals by providing adequate funds, logistics, capacity in the sector for the rapid development of the industry and economic growth of the country.
The President of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, Doctor Umar Hassan made this known at the 2025 two -day conference with theme; “Sustainable Mining Practices as Crucial Support to Nigeria’s Transition to Green Energy Sources”.
The NSME President identified inadequate funding, shortage of manpower and equipment as factors militating against rapid and sustainable development of the mining sector in Nigeria.
He said this is the second time Niger State is hosting its Annual General Meeting and International Conference of the Mining Engineers due to its strategic position in mining sector.
Doctor Hassan who expressed concern over the activities of illegal mining however, underscored the need for artisans in the mining sector to form cooperative groups to help legalize their activities and business.
According to him, the surcharge will help the government with funds to maintain the roads.
Oyedele assured Nigerians that the reform initiatives of the Tinubu administration will yield results, asking for patience from the citizens.
