NTI DG seeks partnership with states on teachers training

National Teachers Institute Director General Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare has sought partnership with the state governments on teachers training and retraining so as to improve their professional capacity.
He equally appealed to Federal Capital Territory Minister to also key in by joining hands with the institute to improve their teachers in various academic fields.
The NTI DG in a statement released after the flag-off of 2017 Nationwide Capacity-Building Workshop for teachers under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project said the institute have been tested and trusted in terms of teachers training.
According to him, the 2017 workshop came late due to unavailability of funds.
He explained further that the capacity training covered four thematic areas of language communication skills, basic classroom teaching methods, techniques, effective management skills and Information and communication technology.
“ NTI is ever ready to organize workshops and teacher retraining programmes nationwide. The institute has been tested and trusted and proved to be capable over the years.
“ We are equally appealing to the executive Governors of the States of the Federation to come forward to the institute to forge strong partnership for the training and retraining of their teachers at an affordable cost,” he said.
The DG also said currently FCT ranks as one of the top five with highest number of students on academics programmes in the institute nationwide.
Minister of State for Education Anthony GozieAnwukahat in his remarks said manuals were developed for the themetic areas in 2013 arising from the conductof impact assessment survey of participants of erstwhile MDGs workshops.
“ It is instructive to note that the manuals underwent critical scrutiny for the purpose of reviewing and updating them based on reports and observations received on them from monitoring stakeholders,” he said.
FCT Minister Muhammed Musa Bello said they are doing their best to support teachers to improve their capacity through in service training and refresher courses.
He vowed that FCT will continue to do more in order to further enhance the capacity of its teachers.
