NTI/MDGs flag-off 2014 training workshops for 4,070 teachers

The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Dr. Sule Lamido has called on the Federal Government to explore the possibility of sustaining the National Teachers Institute (NTI) annual capacity-building workshops training for Nigerian teachers beyond 2015.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mahmud Ahmed Gumel, made the call yesterday at Duste, Jigawa state, at the flagging-off of 2014 NTI/MDGs Nationwide capacity-building workshops where 4,070 primary school teachers across the 36 States of the Federation including the FCT are receiving training.

 The governor, who underscored the importance of the continuous annual capacity building workshops training of teachers’ of primary and junior secondary schools in the country by the institute. Lamido said, “NTI as an agency for teacher education training and developments its working and training Nigerian teachers’, yet we all, still need to do more at every capacity we can, to lift the standard of our education.

“For us in Jigawa state, we are committed to partner with the NTI in raising the standard of our state’s teachers’, in other to enhance their professional skills to optimal level which we know will reflect on our children”.

 In his welcome address, the Director General/Chief Executive of the NTI, Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu affirmed the Institute’s capacity and readiness to professionally train and equip teachers nationwide with the necessary content and skills to perform their duty in the best of manners.

 Dr. Sharehu, while addressing the gathering said, “The NTI has the best form of training and course manuals with sound facilitators in teacher training that will uplift the teaching profession across the country. What we need to say, is to appeal to participants at this workshop to be proactive, be ready to learn new things, study their manual and take lessons in the workshop with all the attention it eserves”.

Earlier in the day, the members of the NTI’s Governing Council and management staff where at the Government House on a courtesy visit on the Executive Governor of Jigawa State Dr. Sule Lamido.

Addressing the Governor during the visit, the Director General/Chief Executive of NTI Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu said, the delegation are in Jigawa to flag off its annual Capacity building workshop for Nigerian teachers. He called on the Jigawa State Government to continue to partner with NTI as the Institute has the best structure and course manual to improve teachers’ quality across board.

Responding, Dr. Sule Lamido thanked the NTI for choosing Dutse for its flag-off programme and commended the NTI for uplifting the standard in Nigeria.
