The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has pledged its full support to veteran journalist Raphael Oni following his appointment as Special Assistant on Digital and Public Diplomacy to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye.
The appointment positions the seasoned media executive at the center of Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy communications strategy, leveraging digital platforms to boost public engagement and international outreach.
In a congratulatory message issued by NUJ FCT Council Chairman Comrade Grace Ike, the union highlighted Oni’s transition from active journalism to government communications as a vital bridge between the diplomatic press and the Ministry.
“We are confident he will use his expertise to strengthen transparent, timely, and strategic communications that advance the Ministry’s mandate and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Ike stated, emphasizing that the council looks forward to a productive partnership with the Ministry’s revamped media team.
Oni brings more than 15 years of specialized field experience to the diplomatic corps.
Beyond his work in photojournalism and government reporting, he serves as the publisher of Diplomats Extra Magazine and previously held leadership roles as Secretary General of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria and Secretary of the NUJ Correspondents Chapel in Abuja.
The union expressed strong confidence that Oni’s deep institutional knowledge will elevate Nigeria’s public diplomacy while maintaining high standards of transparency and media collaboration.
